How to stop spammers sending messages to your Facebook account.

Table of Contents

Dealing with unsolicited messages on Facebook can be a pain in the a**. Spammers often target profiles and pages with wide visibility, inundating them with unwanted content. However, there’s an effective way to mitigate this by tweaking your visibility settings, specifically through country restrictions.

This approach can help limit your exposure and reduce the spam messages you receive. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to adjust these settings on a computer and your mobile.

Stop spammers on your mobile

Open the app and select your Facebook page

Open the Facebook app on your mobile device and select your Facebook page. This can be done by tapping on the three horizontal lines, also known as the ‘hamburger menu’, located at the bottom right corner for iOS users and the top right corner for Android users. From there, find ‘Pages’ and choose the page you wish to adjust.

Open settings

Once you’re on your page, look for the cog wheel icon at the top right corner and tap on it to access your page’s settings.

Select page settings

Scroll down until you come across ‘Page Settings’ and select it. This will bring you to a menu where you can edit various aspects of your page’s functionality and visibility.

Choose Public Posts

In the Page Settings menu, locate and tap on ‘Public Posts’. This section is important for managing who can see your posts and how people can find your page.

Find Country Restrictions

After selecting ‘Public Posts’, scroll all the way to the bottom to find ‘Country Restrictions’.

Tap on ‘Country Restrictions’ to specify which countries your page should be visible in. This is where you can limit the visibility of your page to certain countries, which can help in reducing spam by preventing access from regions known for spamming activities.

Save your changes!

Make sure to save your changes after selecting the desired countries to ensure that your new settings are applied. This adjustment can significantly help in controlling the audience that has access to your page, thus reducing the likelihood of receiving spam messages.

Head to Facebook

Open your preferred web browser and navigate to the Facebook website. Ensure you’re logged into the account you wish to adjust settings for.

Click on the Icon Drop-Down Menu

Once logged in, look towards the top right corner of your Facebook homepage. You’ll see an icon resembling a small arrow pointing downwards. Click on this to reveal a drop-down menu.

Select ‘Settings and Privacy’

Within the drop-down menu, you’ll find various options. Look for “Settings and Privacy” and click on it. This expands into a submenu offering further selections.

Select ‘Settings’

From the expanded submenu, choose “Settings.” This action directs you to a comprehensive settings page, where you can modify various aspects of your Facebook account.

Select ‘Privacy’

On the settings page, locate the sidebar menu on the left-hand side. From there, find and click on “Privacy.” This will take you to the privacy settings and tools page.

Select ‘Public Posts’

Within the privacy settings menu, continue to navigate until you find “Public Posts.” This section controls who can follow you, like or comment on your public posts, and who can see public posts in which you’re tagged.

Scroll to the Bottom

After selecting “Public Posts,” scroll down to the very bottom of the page. Here, you’ll find additional settings related to your public post visibility.

Edit Country Restrictions

Towards the bottom, you will see an option for “Country Restrictions.” Click on “Edit” next to it. This allows you to specify which countries can find and view your public posts.

Select the Countries

In the editable field that appears, you can now type in the names of the countries you want your page or profile to be visible to. Conversely, you can also list countries you wish to restrict. This setting is particularly useful if you’re receiving a significant amount of spam from specific regions.

This won’t stop spammers completely, but might help reduce the number of messages you receive. And if in doubt reach out to the team at Fruit Punch Digital.
